Analysing the data

Over the weekend we each had 10 copies of our questionnaire to get filled in. We wanted to get a fairly even distribution of age groups, i focused mainly on the 30-40 and the 40 and over category as well as those aged between 13 and 15 as the middle group of 16-19 year olds could be found easily within our own college. In yesterday's lesson (12/1/09) we brought our questionnaires together in order to analyse the data and see if there was a trend emerging, we didn't get this finished within the lesson but this will be completed before next lesson. In the next lesson we will be writing up our data in to a powerpoint and detailing the trends that we have noticed. We will present these findings in the form of graphs and charts which we will create in Excel, the presentation will be shown to the rest of the class in Friday's lesson.

Media Consumer Trends Questionnaire

Last lesson (7/1/09) we were set the homework to individually create a first draft of our questionnaire, my individual draft will be uploaded in the next post.

This lesson we worked as a group in order to create the final questionnaire using our individual drafts as reference. Questions from each draft were combined in order to create a questionnaire which would give the most relevant information.

The questionnaire had to be designed in a way that would give us useful data that would enable us to establish what consumers would want from a new film. To assess what consumers would want from a new film the majority of the questions asked them to detail the attributes of existing films which they enjoy. This was done in order to get an idea of how to model our own film so that it would appeal to our target audience, which we would also assess from the questionnaire results.

We also asked questions about their habbits in regard to individual's cinema habbits and how often they bought films. This was in order to assess the popularity of cinema viewing in comparison to buying films and popular cinema viewing times. We therefore would be able to decide what cinema days would be best to distribute our film to the cinemas, as well as when to show increased screenings e.g. cinema promotional days like Orange Wednesdays. It would also enable us to establish whether to put more financing into cinema distribution or the DVD and Blu-ray market.

Questions like Age, Gender and Occupation were asked to assess personality types which would influence their film choices. All of the questions were asked to assess our target audience and where there would be a "gap in the market" which we could fill.

Also attached in the next post will be the final version of our group's questionnaire.
